Mormugao PI Kapil Nayak said Mormugao Police on August 28 registered an offence against Sujitkumar Singh under Section 325 and added Section 302 on Wednesday (October 5).
According to PI Nayak, Sanjay Chavan (35) was involved in a theft case at Maina-Curtorim and after serving police custody was sent to judicial custody at Sada Sub Jail on August 12.
“On August 12 evening, Chawan was assaulted by Sujitkumar Singh, another undertrial who was involved in a murder at Konkan Railway,” informed PI Nayak.
PI Nayak added that the jail officials reported the matter to Mormugao Police station on August 15 and on August 16, Chawan was admitted to Chicalim Cottage Hospital for medical treatment.
PI Nayak said the doctors at Chicalim Cottage Hospital referred Chawan to the GMC “While undergoing treatment at GMC, Chawan succumbed to injuries on October 5,” said the police officer.
