Justice Shriram Madhusudan Modak, Judge of Bombay High Court has on Saturday said that the new Legislation, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which will replace the existing age old Indian Evidence Act, will come into force on July 1, 2024.
Saying the success of this Act requires joint efforts from all stakeholders, Justice Modak stressed that the success of any law depends on its interpretation and the respect it is given by the people.
Justice Modak was addressing the legal fraternity whilst delivering the fourth lecture of the GRK-Judiciary Talks on the topic ‘Broad Aspects of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023’.
Others present on the occasion were Nitin Kunkolienkar, President Vidya Vikas Mandal, Adv Pritam Morais, First Vice President, Adv Prasad Naik, Board Member, and Mrs Shruti Nadkarni, Head of Department, of the Law College.
Lauding the efforts of G R Kare College of Law, Margao, to make the law college a knowledge hub, Justice Modak said it shows that educational institutions from Goa are well aware of the happenings in the country as well as across the globe.
On the occasion, Justice Modak also released the GRK e-newsletter named as ‘The Chronicle’.
Chronicle is a monthly e-newsletter conceptualised by Dr Maria Goretti Simoes, Officiating Principal of the Law College and it depicts the achievements of the students as also the faculty of the institution thereby taking the college closer to its vision of becoming a centre of legal excellence in teaching and learning. The lecture was followed by celebration of the International Women’s Day.
On the occasion, about forty practicing lady advocates from South Goa were felicitated.
