Stepping aside to wash their tiffins proved providential for three roadside vendors who had a lucky escape when a cement-laden truck turned turtle at the foot of the Karmalghat near the Agonda road junction on Saturday.
Women vendors usually sell locally grown vegetables and fruits by the roadside at the Agonda road junction were the accident took place.
Three women vendors had just finished their lunch and had stepped aside to wash their tiffins, when the truck (GA-08-U-9955) loaded with cement bags overturned at the very spot where the vendors had sat barely minutes earlier, as the vehicle was negotiating a sharp turn at the foot of Karmalghat slope.
The driver attributed the mishap to a malfunction which had locked the steering of the truck while negotiating the turn.
