Successful endoscopic spine surgery at Manipal Hospital

PANAJI

Manipal Hospital, Goa, announced the successful treatment of a 50-year-old male patient who suffered severe low back pain and right leg sciatica. The patient was suffering due to a disc prolapse at the L5-S1 level, which was pressing on a nerve, causing intense pain.

Initially, the patient was treated with oral painkillers and nerve medications. However, his pain remained unbearable, even with the strongest medications. Given the severity of his condition, the medical team in the city’s Manipal Hospital suggested an endoscopic spine surgery, also known as keyhole surgery, which involves a small incision.

Dr. Sunny Kamat, Consultant - Spine Orthopedic Surgery, Manipal Hospital Goa, said “Endoscopic spine surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that offers many benefits. The surgery lasted just 30 minutes, and the patient experienced immediate relief from his pain. He was able to go home the day after the surgery.”

“Endoscopic spine surgery is a game-changer for patients with conditions like disc prolapse. The minimally invasive nature of this procedure ensures faster recovery times, less pain, and fewer complications, making it a preferred choice for many.”

The patient was followed up 10 days after the surgery and had completely recovered, returning to his routine life. He expressed immense satisfaction with the outcome of the surgery.

“The small incision of less than one centimeter caused no damage to the spinal muscles, resulted in minimal bleeding, and had meager chances of nerve damage or infection. Postoperative pain was also minimal, which helped in reducing the hospital costs and enabled a quicker return to work,” the patient shared.

Manipal Hospital, Goa, remains committed to providing advanced medical treatments and compassionate care to all its patients. This successful surgery highlights the hospital’s dedication to improving patient outcomes through innovative surgical techniques.
