Speaking to The Goan on the sidelines of a cultural programme in Ponda, Dhavalikar said glorifying of Narkasur should be stopped and Lord Krishna should be worshipped. “Organising Narkasur competitions should be stopped because youth are getting addicted to bad things,” he said.
A couple of days back, all the sarpanchas of six panchayats from Marcaim constituency had demanded that Narkasur competitions should be banned, however they had no objection for making Narkasur effigies to mark the victory of good over evil.
Justifying the demand of his panchas, Dhavalikar said: “We should protect our culture and its values. Two decades ago, these Narkasur competitions started. Organisers should stop such events. I have seen how youth get addicted to bad things when they make Narkasur. Nobody should politicise our demand, but should wisely think on it. We want our youth to steer and process towards a good way,” he said.
“I appeal to all MLAs and politicians to stop funding Narkasur making and its competitions. Once they stop it, all these unwanted things will stop. Let us celebrate Diwali in a traditional way by worshiping Krishna and lighting lamps,” he added.
He said MGP has organised Diwali programmes in all the talukas.
Meanwhile in the morning, the Minister for Craftsman and Training addressing ITI students at Farmagudi had also appealed to the youth to be away from Narkasur competitions.
