This summer, sugarcane is breaking the internet aroud Goa! There is a video going around the net where we see two people. While one person asks “tuzya bapaain laylaa uss” (has your father planted the sugarcane?”), the other retorts with comical replies. Annoying and entertaining at the same time like much of online content, the video has been doing rounds in many WhatsApp forwards and Facebook pages.
The affair apparently started with two little kids being shot plucking sugarcane from a field. “Has your father planted this sugarcane?” asks a kid from the duo. "It is I who has planted this when I was born!” let us eat this sugarcane” in reply the two kids are ridiculed and called thieves. Nothing to worry though because according to the video’s label on YouTube, it is light-hearted Konkani comedy. The video is a big hit around Goa and many of its versions are now surfacing, including songs set to lyrics.
As with most things on social media though, this trend has also taken an unpredictable turn with people inserting objectionable content in many versions of the video.
