Huts of the fishermen and shacks were destroyed following gusty winds, while roads have sunk and frequent power cuts and flood-like situations have been observed in some areas and fields due to the heavy downpour.
The fishermen in the coastal areas faced huge losses as they could not venture out to sea due to increase in water levels in Chapora river and the Arabian Sea. Roads and fields were flooded, and rainwater entered the premises of the Harihareshwar temple at Parsem. The newly constructed road at Tuem Industrial Estate also caved in.
Soil erosion has been reported at Tiracol river at Nhaibag-Poraskade due to which some coconut trees were also uprooted.
The roads in Ashvem, Morjim, Chopdem, Agarwaddo and Mandrem were also flooded and motorists and people had a tough time wading through.
Sunken roads, flood-like conditions in Pernem
The hilly areas and the coastal regions of Pernem taluka have been adversely affected due to the heavy rains that have been lashing the State for the last four days.
