'Supermoon' gazing on Nov 14
PANAJI: A supermoon means a larger and brighter lunar disc in the sky when moon comes closer to earth. The present Leap year has brought three supermoons - Oct 16, Nov 14 and Dec 14. A moon 30 times brighter and 14 percent larger in size called 'Supermoon' would be seen in Goa on November 14. It would be the biggest seen in the entire 21st century.
This celestial event had earlier occurred in 1948 and next chance to witness a similar supermoon would be on November 25, 2034.
The normal distance of moon from earth is 384400 kilometres but on Nov 14, the moon would be at a distance of 356509 kms.
