Sitting Congress Curtorim Zilla Panchayat member Moreno Rebello’s plan to recontest the coming polls may have been scuttled by the reservation of the seat for women, but supporters and well-wishers of the first-time ZP member have all batted for his wife Michelle to contest the election.
In fact, sarpanchas and elected members of Curtorim, Macazana and Sao Jose de Areal villages, which make up the Curtorim ZP constituency, have all rallied behind Moreno to field his wife Michelle.
The supporters have called on all and sundry in the constituency, including three-time Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, seeking support in support of Moreno’s wife.
“After the Curtorim seat was declared reserved for women, many of our supporters, including the village sarpanchas and others, voiced their support for my wife Michelle,” Moreno said.
He, however, said that the workers and supporters will take the decision whether Michelle should contest on the Congress party banner or not.
On the question of getting the backing and support of Curtorim Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco, Moreno said the supporters and
workers had approached the local MLA a day ago for
support.
