The bus was sanctioned through the MPLAD funds of Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanawade, who formally handed over the vehicle to the college. Among those present were Additional Collector (South Goa) Ramesh Gaonkar, Deputy Collector Vishal Kundaikar, Zilla Panchayat member Poonam Samant, Bori Sarpanch Sagar Naik, Panch member Devendra Gaude, and members of the SVVM management led by president Prakash Prabhu and vice-president Shripad Desai.
The programme began with traditional Hindu rituals, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp. Local Managing Committee manager Minanath Upadhye welcomed the guests and thanked Tanawade for sanctioning the funds. Principal Prof (Dr) Achut P Pednekar described the occasion as a historic milestone for the institution, noting that the bus was the first received by the college under the MPLAD Scheme.
Addressing the gathering, Tanawade praised the Mandal’s contribution to education over the past 41 years and highlighted the important role of teachers and parents in shaping students’ futures.
He said SVVM’s College of Commerce was the first college to receive a bus through the initiative.
