MARGAO
The entire congested stretch between Alankar junction, Malbhat to St Sebastian Church, Aquem was cleaned up under the Swachh Margao Abhiyan on Monday morning.
The cleanliness drive was undertaken by the Aquem Social Cultural Welfare Association in association with local MLA Digambar Kamat and the Margao Municipal Council in co-ordination with New Era High School, Malbhat, T B Cunha High School, Aquem, St Joseph High School, Aquem and Government High School, Vidyanagar-Aquem. The programme was supported by group of youth wing from Malbhat and Aquem.
Addressing the media, the Margao MLA said the drive has covered the entire stretch of the road from the Alankar junction to the Church junction, clearing all the trees and bushes along the way and distributing pamphlets to shop owners and residents to maintain the area clean. “The students went around the shops and distributed pamphlets in a bid to bring about awareness amongst the owners. The programme was successful and we now intend to carry on the exercise from St Sebastian Church junction to Power House in the next phase," Kamat said.
Margao Municipal Council chairperson complimented the school students for their zeal and enthusiasm for participating in the exercise.
President of the Aquem Social Cultural Welfare Association and former councilor Damu Shirodkar expressed satisfaction over the cleanliness drive saying the Association will work out a system wherein the stretch of the road is always maintained clean.
