Talk less and work more, BJP hits back at Mormugao MLA

Refuting the allegations of Mormugao Congress MLA Sankalp Amonkar, the Mormugao BJP Mandal hit back on Saturday advising him to “talk less and work more”

Addressing a news conference, Mormugao BJP Mandal president Sanjay Satardekar said Amonkar had regularly convened news conferences to make baseless allegations.

"He should talk less and work more like how the BJP has done in Mormugao for the last 15 years. Amonkar claims people were living in fear and terror for the last 15 years, and he must visit the police station and check how many crimes have been reported. Amonkar must first study the constituency and not try to mislead the people," said Satardekar.

Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chairperson Damodar Kaskar said it looked like Amonkar had accidentally won the election and knew nothing about the constituency or the rules.

"He has alleged that stop-work order notices are sent by MMC, and I don't understand how he does not know that notices to vacate houses are issued by the Deputy Collector to those houses prone to landslides before monsoons. These notices are only given to dangerous houses on the hills under the Disaster Management Act.”

“In case he does not want these houses to get such notices, will Amonkar give authorities in writing that he will take responsibility in case of any disaster and loss of property and lives to these houses," said Kaskar.

Former BJP Block president Jayant Jadhav criticised Amonkar for claiming no development works were undertaken in Mormugao by BJP.

"We may have lost the election, and if Amonkar cannot take up any new development, he can at least follow up on projects taken by us which are almost ready for inauguration and maintain the projects completed by us. We have given 1,200 jobs in the last 15 years and he must now work instead of seeking sympathy from news conferences," said Jadhav, while listing out a number of projects by the BJP in the Mormugao constituency.
