Talks on alliance with RGP in final stage: Cong

PANAJI

The Congress Political Affairs Committee (PAC) met on Sunday under the leadership of AICC Goa desk in-charge Manikrao Thakre, with discussions focusing on strengthening the party organisation at the grassroots level and preparing for the upcoming Assembly elections.

Thakre said the meeting also discussed finalising various election-related committees and strengthening the party organisation across the State.

He said the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) would be reconstituted within 15 days. He stressed the need for the party to contest the upcoming elections with unity and “full force” to take on

the BJP.

“We have to go to the upcoming polls with unity and full force. We have to fight against the BJP,” Thakre said.

He said Congress would contest the elections by taking everyone along and invited those seeking to defeat the BJP to join the party.

“Whoever wants to defeat BJP is welcome to join us. This election will be fought only with the aim of defeating BJP,” he said.

On alliances, Thakre said Congress was open to tie-ups and indicated that talks with the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) were in the final stage.

Regarding the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), he said it was a national-level party and any discussions would be held in consultation with the senior leadership.

Asked about former GPCC president Amit Patkar’s absence from the PAC meeting, Thakre said Patkar had been invited and remained a member of the committee.

“Let Patkar answer why he did not attend the meeting,” he said.
