Taluka-wise meetings of edu dept to bring reforms begin

The meetings which begun with talukas of Tiswadi and Salcete will conclude across all talukas by Tuesday.
Speaking to The Goan, Education Director Gajanan Bhat said, "We have started this exercise as we have to implement many things in all the educational institutions. Mainly, as far as cleanliness is concerned, we have asked schools to keep their premises plastic-free. Additionally, the schools have also been asked to avoid use of plastic within and even around their premises." Secondly, all schools have been asked to make and accept payments digitally.
"Schools have been asked to make as well as accept and make all payments and in a digital mode. These include accepting fees and expenses for the school, among others. We have asked them to avoid involvement of cash at any point," he said.
Nonetheless, educational institutions have also been asked to put up photos of the President and Prime Minister within their premises.
The schools have also been asked to cooperate in effective implementation of Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) to monitor supply of mid-day meals (MDMs).
Parrikar, in a meeting with all HoDs, had issued directives on cost cutting, Swachh Bharat, care for the environment, digitization of transactions and general efficiency by government staff and departments.
As far as digitization is concerned, he has set a deadline of December 31 for officials to issue cheques and that payments should instead be in electronic mode. He has also warned that additional charges would be levied for cash payments made after March 31 next year.
