Tarimol access issue resolved, 8 metre service road assured

The long-pending issue of road access for residents of Tarimol in Sanguem has been resolved, with authorities assuring the provision of an approximately 8-metre-wide service road alongside the new bridge at Bendwada.

The assurance was given by Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai along with officials of the Goa Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) on Monday.

Following this development, the approach road work to the Bendwada bridge is set to gain momentum after remaining stalled for several months. Locals have expressed satisfaction over the clarity provided regarding the access road.

It may be recalled that four days ago, residents of Tarimol had halted the ongoing work on the approach road to the newly constructed bridge, fearing that they would be left without proper access to their village. The villagers had insisted that work would not resume until officials visited the site and presented a clear plan of the project.

Responding to the concerns, GSIDC official Nilay Shenvi had assured a joint site inspection with engineers and officials on Monday. Accordingly, a large number of officials, Minister Phal Dessai, municipal councillors, and villagers assembled at the construction site.

During the inspection, residents reiterated their apprehension that the completion of the bridge might leave no adequate service road for Tarimol.

Addressing these concerns, officials and Minister Phal Dessai clarified that an 8-metre-wide service road would be provided to ensure smooth connectivity. The assurance significantly eased public anxiety.

Authorities further assured that the road work in Tarimal would be completed prior to the completion of the bridge. Minister Phal Dessai emphasised that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure that residents face no inconvenience regarding road access.

Bridge to be ready in 6 months

Stating that priority would be given to completing the Tarimol road, Social Welfare Minister and Sanguem MLA Subhash Phal Dessai told media persons said all works related to the bridge would be completed within the next six months, following which it would be opened for traffic.

Sanguem Municipal Councillor Queiroz Cruz thanked the officials and the minister for their proactive role in addressing and resolving the concerns of the villagers.
