CANACONA
I will neither back nor be cowed down when it comes to attacks on my karyakartas and my self respect. I will fight 2019 Lok Sabha polls from South Goa,” stated ex-minister and ST leader Ramesh Tawadkar in an emotional speech on his 50th birthday at Canacona on Saturday night. Tawadkar was given a rousing traditional welcome by women at the reception organised to mark his birthday at Devgipurush Hall, Patnem.
Speaking on the occasion Goa Surakhsa Manch leader Subhash Velingkar said injustice was meted out to Tawadkar during the last assembly elections by denying him the BJP ticket. He said the saffron party was presently run by hired workers, who are causing immense hatred among the rank and file of core BJP karyakartas.
Eminent writer N Shivdas said, “Efforts are being made in the BJP to downgrade and finish the Bahujan Samaj leadership in a planned and systematic manner.
Venting out his anger at BJP’s “use and throw policy”, Tawadkar hit out, “I trusted Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, but he failed to keep that trust and portrayed not only me but my karyakartas as nalayaks. My workers want to know how we became nalayaks when we did everything right.”
He said as a minister he did justice to all portfolios allotted to him. ‘’During my tenure as Agriculture Minister, the State received Krishi Award. I revived and gave a lifeline to the Animal Husbandry department. In just two years, I launched and implemented 25 different schemes under the Tribal Welfare Ministry. Then, as Sports Minister, I successfully conducted Lusofonia Games,” he mentioned.
He said his workers had organised swachh Bharat programmes at 218 places in just two days. “Now one must tell me how I and my workers became nalayaks,” Tawadkar said sarcastically.
He said the BJP sidelined people like Satish Dhond and Subhash Velingkar.
The function was compered by Prasad Pagui and Sumitra Komarpant. Ashok Gaonkar proposed the vote of thanks.
