MARGAO

Goa Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar on Saturday has said he would use his office to get central schemes to promote agro-based concept and hinterland tourism for sustainable development of the state in order to uplift the standard of living of the people.

Speaking at a function organised by the Dalit Seva Sanghatana at the Ravindra bhavan, Margao on Saturday, Tawadkar also underscored the need to have positive thinking to move ahead in life.

Pointing out there are a host of centrally government schemes, which are not implemented in the state and that funds are returned back to the centre for want of utilization, he said it would be his endeavour to get the schemes to Goa by using his position as the Assembly Speaker.

“If I can use my position as speaker and manage to get agro-based concept in the state, it would go a long way in uplifting the economic conditions of thousands of families living on agriculture”, he said.

Similarly, Tawadkar said a shift in the tourism policy from the beach tourism to hinterland tourism can help boost the rural economy as well as showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state.

Recalling the works of Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Speaker said “We need to focus on our positive energies than concentration on our negative feelings. In this way, we can move forward in life and in the society”.

Former Dy. Chief Minister, Chandrakant Kavlekar and others also spoke on the  ocassoin.
