A large number of taxi operators protested at the Mopa Airport police station on Saturday after alleging that one of the taxi drivers had been assaulted by police personnel.
According to reports, the taxi drivers claimed that the policeman was in civilian clothes when the incident is alleged to have taken place.
The victim filed a police complaint against the police personnel and other taxi drivers demanded his suspension.
Speaking to local reporters, the taxi driver claimed that he was walking when the police personnel suddenly grabbed him and tore his shirt, besides assaulting him.
Besides the taxi operators, BJP block President Tulshidas Gawas, Mopa Sarpanch Subodh Mahale, Congress General Secretary Jitendra Gawkar, Krishna Naik and others were also present.
Pernem DySP Jivaba Dalvi and Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar then intervened in the matter and mediated between both groups.
The taxi driver then withdrew his complaint, but other taxi drivers warned that they would not tolerate similar incidents in the future.
