Former minister Dilip Parulekar has said teachers are expected not only to get good results in schools, but also to create ideal citizens in society.
He was addressing a function organised by Saidatta Mahila Mandal Saligao to felicitate eight retired teachers from Saligao.
“These days, both parents go to work and children are deprived of values that elders would impart in earlier times. Hence, the responsibility of teachers today has increased immensely. Students are under pressure these days and hence, teachers should provide them counselling as well,” said Parulekar.
“Teachers never retire. Once a teacher, always a teacher. The work of the teacher is not only to get good results for the school but also to create ideal citizens.”
The teachers felicitated on the occasion were Mukund Chodankar, Lata Naik, Smita Dessai, Jyoti Coelho, Indu Naik, Pushpa Bhobe, Ganapati Ghatge and Celia Carneiro.
Teachers Mukund Chodankar, Pushpa Bhobe and Lata Naik later expressed their gratitude to the felicitation function.
A fancy dress competition was also conducted for small children. Utkarsha Banastarkar, Sushma Naik and Pravina Karekar were also present at the event.
