Teachers get new task; counsel Std X, XII kids on career path

PANAJI

With schools across Goa kicking off the new academic year on June 21, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant got the teachers to work asking them to counsel Class X and XII students who will get their Board results very soon on career paths.

“Director of Education has asked teachers to talk to Std 10 and Std 12 students, whose results will be out soon and give them proper career counselling so that they get admission to some good courses,” Sawant said.

“Teachers have also started going to schools from today. DoE has given them instruction to take measures such as recording of classes, preparing worksheets or adopting some other measures to reach out to students,” the chief minister added.

He said no decision has yet been taken by the government on holding classes offline and having students physically come to schools for classes.

Earlier, short sessions for students were conducted online on Zoom or Google Meet apps on the first day of the new academic year where class teachers explained the details of how lectures and other teaching-learning work will be carried out online.

Actual classes and subject teaching will commence from Tuesday in several schools and will largely follow the modus operandi of last academic year.

However, internet connectivity issues will play a big role.

For students who for any reason miss out on the online classes, the department has put the onus on schools to ensure them support by making "suitable alternatives" available.

"The schools have to come up with alternatives for students who couldn’t participate in online teaching learning,” the circular issued by the department says.

The experience of conducting the teaching-learning processes virtually in the last academic year will hold most schools in good stead this year, according to officials of the Education department.
