While the footpath encroachment has become a big menace in Bengaluru as pedestrians face tough time due to the encroached footpaths, a techies group led a campaign to clear the city's footpaths.
Techies and top business tycoons from Bengaluru joined hands on Friday to form a human chain at ITPL main road. The campaign was initiated by Global Axis Business Park that houses some top companies in the nation.
Global Axis Business Park Director C Prabhakar said there were many issues due to the fallout of footpath encroachment.
“As all the footpaths are encroached, pedestrians have no options but to walk on the road, thereby endangering their lives. As a result, there is an increase in cases of pedestrian injuries.”
“Pedestrians walking on the road are a nuisance to motorists who find a tough time while driving and this decreases the speed thus leading to traffic jams. So to stop these problems, there is an urgent need to clear footpaths,” said Prabhakar, and added that female techies were facing harassment while walking on the road.
The techies who formed the human chain said it was high time the government took them into confidence and solve their problems on priority. The campaign by techies was lauded at all levels while the techies have resolved to continue it till the issue of encroachments is addressed.
