A 16-year-old girl from Morjim studying in Class 10 drowned at Morjim beach on Saturday.
According to the PI at Pernem Police Station, the minor girl along with three other cousins had entered the sea after 06.30 pm.
With the recent cyclone Tauktae, the sea conditions are still rough and dangerous.
The cousins were pulled into the sea by a high current of tides, but they were rescued. The deceased girl was rescued and found unconscious. She was immediately shifted to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim where she died while undergoing treatment. The other cousins are under treatment, as per the last reports.
The post mortem was conducted at GMC and the body was handed over to the girl's relatives on Sunday.
PI Dalvi has appealed to the general public not to wander into the sea, especially amid the rough sea weather and with the curfew in force amid a Covid surge.
“Police cannot forcibly put public inside their houses every time, they must willingly follow the curfew," he said.
Pernem Police have registered a case of unnatural death. PSI Praful Giri conducted the Panchanama. Further investigation is in progress.
