A dispute between the villagers and priests sparked off tension at the Navadurga Temple in Marcaim on Monday. Both groups later filed counter complaints at the Mardol police station.
According to reports, a dispute broke out over the right to the daily income of temple regarding perishable items like rice, coconut, etc.
Following the dispute, about 100 residents went to the Mardol police station and filed a complaint against 3 priests, after accusing them of manhandling women at the Navadurga temple in Marcaim.
In a counter complaint, priests filed a complaint against two youth, accusing them of assaulting a priest.
A police team was stationed at the Navadurga temple to maintain law and order.
