Thick black dust returns to haunt residents of Cuncolim

Dust and air pollution has come back to haunt the people staying around the Cuncolim Industrial estate once again. 
Local residents have not only complained of thick black dust settling on the houses adjoining the Industrial Estate, but also on the plants and vegetation around the estate.
Questions are raised in local circles whether any of the unscrupulous industrial units are responsible for the situation by not operating the smoke chimneys.  
In the past, many an industrial unit was caught red-handed for their blatant failure to operate the chimneys, resulting in the smoke generated in the unit settling down in the immediate neighbourhood. 
Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias, who had conducted an inspection of the industrial estate as well as the residential houses in the immediate neighbourhood of the estate, has expressed shock over the presence of a thick black substance settled around the entire area. 
“The presence of the thick black substance on the plants, vegetation and houses is a matter of serious concern. This ought to be stopped immediately as I am convinced that it will affect the health and life of the people,” Clafacio said. 
The Cuncolim MLA has already brought the matter to the notice of the Goa State Pollution Control Board and has demanded an immediate inspection of the Industrial estate.
“The Pollution Board has tentatively fixed the inspection of the Cuncolim Industrial estate on Monday. Let us wait and see what it has to say on the matter,” he added. 
The Cuncolim MLA is believed to have also spoken to the members the Industrial Estate Association and has sought their cooperation in tackling the pollution. 
Incidentally, the Goa State pollution control board had in the past installed air quality monitoring equipments at the Cuncolim Industrial estate to keep a tab on the pollution levels in the industrial estate.
