Gold ornaments and cash, totalling worth Rs 11.45 lakh, was reported to have been stolen in two separate house breaking theft cases in Nuvem and Navelim on Friday.
In the first case of such a house breaking incident reported at Nuvem, unidentified culprits effected entry into the house of the victim complainant, Mohan Verlekar, and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh and cash amount of Rs 17,000.
Maina-Curtorim police informed that the Verlekar family was supposed to depart for Mumbai on Saturday to attend a wedding in the metro city. The incident of theft occurred during the night on Friday when the Verlekar family was fast asleep in their bungalow in Nuvem.
Maina-Curtorim police informed that the culprits effected entry by cutting open the grills and decamped with gold ornaments -- six bangles, two golden rings, one mangalsutra and other
such valuable gold ornaments -- all worth Rs 10 lakh, besides Rs 17,000 in cash.
The theft came to light the next morning on Saturday, after which a complaint to that effect was lodged with the Maina-Curtorim police.
In yet another similar incident of house breaking of theft reported on the same night, at Cruznagar, Butica-Navelim, unidentified culprits broke open the grills and entered the main hall of the victim Melvin Pereira's house, and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 1.90 lakh and cash amount of Rs 7,000.
Margao town police informed that the theft occurred after 11.30 pm on Friday after the Pereira family had retired for the night.
In both these cases, offences under Sections 457 and 380 of IPC have been registered. Further investigations are in progress.
