Unknown culprits broke into an unoccupied bungalow and stole selective items, leaving behind various other valuables.
The thieves broke open the rear door to gain entry and decamped with eight imported liquor bottles, ransacking a showcase to access them. They also stole a smart TV along with its stabiliser and WiFi router, as well as a double-door fridge, leaving its stabiliser behind on the kitchen platform.
An almirah in another room was ransacked, but nothing appears to have been taken, not even a mobile phone kept there.
It is reported that the incident occurred on December 26, 2024, when no one was home. The burglary came to the notice of the occupants when they returned on December 27. Neighbours mentioned hearing some noises coming from the unoccupied house around 3:30 a.m. on December 26.
The residents found the rear door, which also has an iron gate, open, indicating that the culprits gained entry through it and fled the same way. Upon noticing the missing fridge, they realised the TV was also gone, with only the mounting clamps left behind.
"I first noticed the TV was missing, then the fridge, and later saw the showcase cupboard, where eight imported liquor bottles were kept, open and empty," said the house’s occupant.
A police complaint has been lodged. The police visited the house twice as part of their investigation but reportedly found no clues. "This must be the handiwork of some petty criminals," the police reportedly told the resident.
Regarding the ransacked almirah, the resident added, "It was broken open, but nothing seems to have been taken. Perhaps there was nothing of interest to them."
