Porvorim Police have arrested a third accused who was absconding in connection with the murder of NS Dhillon at a villa in Pilerne.
Addressing a news conference in Porvorim on Monday, Superintendent of Police (North) Akshat Kaushal stated that a police team headed by Mandar Parab was deputed to Madhya Pradesh on February 15 to trace the absconding accused, Kunal Khatik (24) of Datia in Madhya Pradesh.
Porvorim police had previously arrested Nitu Shankar Ahuja (22) of Bhopal (MP) and Jitendra Ramchandra Sahu (32) of Bhopal (MP) in connection with Dhillon’s murder.
The police team, however, returned on February 22 as the accused Kunal Khatik could not be traced.
However, information gathered by the team indicated that the accused was in Karnataka’s Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) area within the jurisdiction of Robertsonpeth Police Station.
A police team was dispatched to Karnataka and, with the assistance of Robertsonpeth Police Station, conducted a search. However, Khatik could not be traced, and he was also absconding from the KGF area.
On February 23, it was revealed that the accused was spotted in Datia, MP. A police team headed by PSI Mandar Parab was dispatched to Datia. PSI Mandar Parab and a police team, with the assistance of Kotwal Police station in Datia, traced Khatik near his house on February 24 afternoon. The accused was brought to Goa after obtaining transit remand.
He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class and remanded to seven days in custody. The other two accused are in judicial custody, said SP Kaushal. SP Kaushal stated that the accused Jitendra Sahu was the mastermind behind Dhillon’s murder.
“The accused Jitendra Sahu was working with the victim, Dhillon, and he wanted to extort money from the victim. However, he could not succeed, so he called Khatik and Ahuja and planned the victim’s murder,” said SP Kaushal.
“After committing the murder, the three accused fled from the scene, changing the number plate of the car. The number plate was found along the Goa“Maharashtra border. It took nearly three weeks for the Porvorim Police to nab the culprit due to frequent changes in the accused’s locations,” SP Kaushal added.
