PANAJI
Drivers of more than 20 vehicles, including rent-a-cars, are facing the possibility of licence suspension or revocation as the Transport Department on Monday issued show cause notices to their owners for multiple violations. These notices were issued based on reports filed by the Panaji Traffic Cell, detailing these violations and recommending action.
Most of these vehicles were found illegally parked in no-parking zones at DB Marg, near casino offices in Panaji, etc., while some were caught jumping traffic signals, violating traffic signs, entering no-entry zones, and driving without seat belts.
The notices, a few of which are in possession of The Goan, have detailed specific offences for which each vehicle was found to have violated.
The department has directed the owners of these vehicles to respond within 15 days, after which a personal hearing will be held by the State Transport Authority (STA).
“The principles of natural justice will be adhered to. Once the offenders submit their replies to the department within the time frame, these will be forwarded to the STA for a hearing, and subsequent orders will be pronounced,” an officer told The Goan.
The authorities have been on their toes following a spate of accidents, particularly those involving rent-a-cars.
