Former PWD minister and MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar on Friday said that third Mandovi bridge was not needed and it’s a wasteful expenditure.

“The new bridge has cost the State exchequer around Rs 800 crore and the central government has sanctioned around Rs 450 crore, but the State is suffering a financial crises,” said Sudin Dhavalikar.

Dhavalikar spoke to media in reaction to a criticism at a public meet in Panaji by Central Minister Nitin Gadkari and State BJP president Vinay Tendulkar on Thursday.

A bypass on the old bridge would have served the purpose of diverting traffic off the bridge, said Dhavalikar.

“The decision of then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was not correct. I had informed this to Gadkari,” said Dhavalikar.

While thanking Gadkari for giving funds to Goa, Dhavalikar said that he will be

happy if he becomes the prime minister.

Dhavalikar said that BJP should stop taking other party leaders into the party. “BJP has no power to get elected on its own and that is why they are taking candidates from other parties,” Dhavalikar said.

He said that Nitin Gadkari has no right for making an appeal to people to elect the BJP candidate to stop MLAs migrating to different parties.

He demanded a legislation to ban MLAs from contesting elections for five years who change the party after getting elected on one party symbol.
