VASCO
Thousands of revellers from across Mormugao taluka thronged the streets of Swatantra Path in Vasco to witness the colourful Carnival parade in Vasco on Monday evening.
The chief guest, Social Welfare Minister Shubhash Phaldessai flagged off the Vasco Carnival parade along with Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar in the presence of Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Girish Borker, Vasco Carnival committee president Fransisco De Souza and other members of the committee.
61 FLOATS
At total of 61 floats in different categories, including clubs and institution (16), traditional (9), clown and jokers (15), fun and junk car (9), family (10) and sponsors (2) took part in the Vasco Carnival float parade, depicting various themes and messages and highlighting the Goan culture and tradition.
The Swatantra Path was brightly decorated as several floats, some with live bands paraded along the streets behind the main float carrying King Momo and Carnival Queen on the streets spreading the message of fun, frolic and merry-making.
The King and the Queen were seen waving hands to the revellers along the 1.5 km stretch of the jam packed Swatantra Path.
The floats included local Kunbi dances, dance academy floats, floats with messages from agriculture department, police department and the Navy. There were also some floats depicting the old traditional culture of Goa and messages to save the environment and nature.
A huge stage was set up near the Vasco Railway station for the guests to view the floats.
EXCITED CROWD
After the float parade, there was a performance by musical band ‘Frontline’ at a stage outside the municipality building.
A large police force was deployed to avoid any law and order situation and to control the crowd.
Many revellers were seen jumping over the barricade to video film the floats while some tourists tried to take selfies with clowns and other artistes to post on social media that they were a part of Carnival festivities in Goa.
