According to Canacona Police, Puneet Chindappa Gawada (22), Charan Khusalappa Gawada (22) and Sawshekar Shivram Gawada (20) died on the spot. Police said the driver of the ill-fated jeep (KA-21-5672) Pradeep Gawda, who had sustained minor injuries was discharged after he was referred to GMC Hospital in Bambolim late Sunday evening, while another occupant Hitesh P Gawada was discharged from CHC Canacona after he was administered first aid, informed the police. Police further informed that four other occupants of the ill-fated jeep, who had come to Goa for a weekend trip escaped unhurt. The bodies of the deceased have been preserved at the GMC, informed Canacona Police. According to the police, the jeep with nine occupants was proceeding from Canacona towards Karwar when it hit an oncoming pick-up (MH-09-CA-7040) carrying chicken. The pick-up was proceeding from Karwar towards Canacona. The incident happened at a turn along the NH17 road at Karai-Loliem. The jeep later hit a roadside wall at about 1.05 am on Sunday. All the jeep occupants from a village in Mangalore had reportedly come to Goa for a weekend holiday trip on Friday and were returning back to Mangalore, informed police sources. A case was booked against jeep driver for rash and negligent driving, while PSI Prashal Desai is investigating the case under the supervision of Canacona PI Philomeno Costa.
