Three elected unopposed, 29 withdraw in Canacona

CANACONA

Three candidates have been elected unopposed in three different panchayats, after 29 candidates withdrew from the fray from seven panchayats in Canacona on Wednesday.

With the three candidates elected unopposed, 169 candidates will now contest elections for the contest the remaining 56 seats in seven panchayats.

The 29 candidates who withdrew their nominations were in Khola (4), Agonda (4), Shrishthal (11), Poinguinim (1), Loliem-Polem (2), Gaondongrim (5) and Khotigao (2).

According to sources, Govind Yeshwant alias Dhillon Naik Dessai was elected unopposed after two other contestants, Nivya Desai and Vasant Gaonkar, withdrew from Ward 5 (general) in Gaondongrim panchayat.

In Shristhal, Rajesh Kuiro Velip got elected unopposed in Ward 5 (General) after Chandrakant Gaounkar withdraw his nomination.

On Tuesday, Sunil Paingankar was elected unopposed as he was the only candidate to file his nomination Ward 4 (general) in Poinguinim.
