Efforts to start the tourism season at the famed Dudhsagar waterfalls in Collem on Monday failed to get underway, as jeep operators affiliated with the Dudhsagar Tour Operators Association refused to start operations unless the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) closes its counter.
To make matters worse, heavy rains on Monday further prevented efforts to start tour operations to the Dudhsagar waterfalls.
On Monday, Dudhsagar Tour Operators Association President Nilesh Velip and other office bearers met Collem Police Inspector Raghoba Kamat to discuss the issue.
They have accused the GTDC of starting a counter to charge money from tourists to visit the waterfalls and claimed that as a result, tourist numbers have dropped significantly.
Speaking to reporters after meeting Collem Police Inspector Raghoba Kamat, Velip said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will resolve the issues of the jeep operators.
“The jeep operators have demanded the closure of the GTDC counter because tourists who plan to see the Dudhsagar waterfalls turn back after seeing the fees fixed by the GTDC. We want the CM to intervene and take necessary action to start the tourism season immediately,” said Velip.
