Questioning the government whether the departments of tourism and sports were in full-time service of the minister concerned, the Aam Aadmi Party on Friday said the entire machinery of the two departments were busy engaged in a personal function of the minister even as the chief minister remained a mute spectator.

“After a floating restaurant apparently belonging to the minister’s son was granted special concessions to operate in Mandovi river, now, the wedding of the minister’s son has been proposed to be held in the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium at the University campus, setting a new precedent of using the stadium as a wedding destination,” said Vishnu Naik, AAP North Goa District Secretary.

The Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium located in the Goa University campus, Taleigao was constructed in 2014 to hold events of volleyball and basketball during the historic Lusofonia Games held in Goa.

Stating that sports persons and sports has been the last priority of the government, AAP leader Mario Cordeiro said the stadium which has been monopolised for BJP functions was now being opened up for weddings, destroying the very sanctity of the university campus which should have been an exclusive place of learning.

“The CM has lost control over the administration. Sports is the last priority for the government and sports persons are made to beg for assistance. Weddings in indoor stadium will set a new precedent. Will university and weddings go together? The Governor, who is the Chancellor, must answer whether indoor stadium was meant for weddings and BJP functions?”Cordeiro said.

Incidentally, the wedding invitation card of the son of Sports Minister Manohar alias Babu Ajgoankar shows that the marriage ceremony has been scheduled at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee indoor stadium on December 12.

Meanwhile, AAP has decided to write to the governor to make his stand on using the facility in the university campus for weddings and non-sports or education related events.
