In yet another alleged incident of drunken driving, a tourist was booked on charges of driving in a rash and negligent manner, and for knocking down and injuring a youth in an accident at the Agassaim bypass road on Thursday morning.
According to Agassaim police, the accused Hemant Yadav, driving a rent a cab, dashed against the youth, Viresh Silminkhan, who was on a bike.
Silimkhan suffered injuries to his legs and hands and was shifted to GMC for treatment after which he was discharged.
“However, in the evening, Silimkhan’s leg got swollen and he then went to a private hospital for treatment,” the police informed.
Meanwhile, sources alleged that the accused, Yadav, along with a woman were both found drunk.
A video of the duo surfaced, in which they were seen clearly drunk and arguing with the locals.
The Agassaim police have registered a FIR against the accused under sections 279 and 338 of IPC. At the time of going to the press, Yadav was detained by the police and further investigations are conducted by PSI Narayan Pinge.
When contacted, North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan confirmed that an alcohol test was conducted on the driver and that, the result is awaited.
