A family holiday meant to bring a burst of winter joy ended in heartbreak early Tuesday when a 41-year-old tourist from Punjab died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Candolim.
Police identified the deceased as Harinderjit Sharma, a resident of Patiala, who had arrived in Goa with his family and close friends for what was to be a brief getaway.
The accident occurred around 4.06 am, when the Calangute Police Control Room received a distress call reporting that a guest had fallen from the upper floor of a hotel.
When police teams, led by PSI Saieel Vaigankar, reached the spot, they found Harinderjit grievously injured. He was later declared dead, and his body has been preserved at the GMC morgue in Bambolim.
For Harinderjit’s family, who had spent the previous day exploring Goa’s beaches and markets, the sudden tragedy has been shattering. According to police, the fall appears to be accidental, though officers stressed that a detailed inquiry is underway.
An unnatural death has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Calangute Police Station.
Police said statements of family members and witnesses are being recorded to piece together the sequence of events that led to the fall.
