A tourist from Gujarat was injured, while three others had a lucky escape when their car rammed into a power transformer, which burst into flames, in Naikawaddo-Calangute in the wee hours of Thursday.

The incident took place near Domino's Pizza at about 4.20 am, when four tourists from Gujarat, who had arrived in the State on a holiday, were travelling from Calangute towards Candolim in their car.

The car driver, Janak Kamalia of Gujarat lost control of the car and the vehicle first struck a stationary car by the roadside, before ramming into the power transformer. The transformer burst into flames with the impact.

Other motorists managed to pull out the four Gujarat tourists and moved them to the Candolim Health Centre. One of them was later shifted to the Mapusa District Hospital and was later referred to the GMC hospital. All of them were later discharged from hospital.

A fire brigade from the Pilerne fire station later went to the site and extinguished the fire.
