Tourists visiting the Colva beach were caught off guard by the Power department’s annual maintenance shutdown for a different reason.
In fact, the shutdown hit the operations of the public toilets at the world-famous beach from Sunday noon till evening. While the toilet near the Silver Sands hotel was shut down in the morning for want of water, the toilet at the Colva Children’s Park was partially shut down again because of water scarcity and the power shutdown.
Tourists visiting the toilet cum changing room were given the option to remove the water from the sump after paying the fee. The staffer manning the toilet pointed out that the shutdown has affected the water pumping operations, resulting in water scarcity.
“There’s water in the sump, but it cannot be pumped to the overhead tank for want power supply,” the staff maintained.
He added: “Those who were willing to use the water from the sump were given the facility.”
A tourist pointed out that they had come to the public toilet since the taps ran dry in the hotel his family was putting up for want of water supply.
“We came to the public toilet with the hope to use the facility, but one of the toilets is shut down, while the other has run out of water,” he added.
