Drishti lifeguards said two Indian tourists were rescued from drowning at Ashvem and Candolim beaches on Sunday, even as they maintained the visitors continue to ignore their warnings not to venture into the rough sea.
In one incident, Drishti lifeguards said three Indian tourists ventured into the sea at Ashvem in a non-swim zone at about 6.45 pm. After the individuals ventured deeper into the water one of them got caught in a rip current was dragged into the sea.
A lifeguard, who was patrolling the stretch, noticed the victims in distress and called for emergency on radio and rushed to the aid of the victim, who hails from Lucknow. One victim who was brought ashore was found to be critical as his vitals were found to be weak and he had difficulty breathing. He was rushed to hospital in a 108 ambulance. He was declared out of danger by a doctor in the hospital.
In the other incident at Candolim involving a male tourist hailing from Mumbai, a lifeguard had alerted the individual not to venture into the rough sea. Being under the influence of alcohol, the tourist didn’t pay heed to the warning. A short while later he was in trouble.
Sensing distress, two lifeguards rushed to his rescue. On shore he was administered oxygen. He was rushed to the Candolim Health Centre. Following a check-up, doctors referred him to GMC for further treatment.
Drishti said despite repeated warnings tourists continue to venture into the rough seas.
