Caught off guard by the strike, tourists were seen making their own arrangements to reach to their destinations, may it be the railway station with whatever transport mode available. Secretary, South Goa Tourist Taxi Operators Association, Roque Fernandes told The Goan that the strike was a huge success in South Goa. He pointed out that tourist taxis stayed off the road right from Arossim to the Salcete coastal belt to Canacona on Monday in response to the strike call, saying that the strike passed off peacefully. “The tourist taxi operators stayed away in response to the strike call. We did not stop any tourists or guests from travelling in coaches or other modes. Our strike has been total,” Roque said. Sources in the know said that most of the starred hotels had made arrangements for coaches to transport the guests from the hotels to the airport and other destinations. Colva police station in-charge, PI Braz Menezes told The Goan that the police had made adequate bandobast arrangements at strategic locations along the Salcete coastline, adding that there was no untoward incident reported from anywhere along the coastal belt. “We made our presence felt at strategic locations along the beach belt right from Majorda to Cavelossim throughout Monday, but there was no law and order incident anywhere along the belt,” PI Menezes said.
