Traditional fishermen started the new fishing season on a moderate note as many of them along Salcete coast netted the prized solar shrimp, with the catch ranging between 500 kilograms to one tonne.
The beach belt along Colva and Benaulim witnessed the normal hustle and bustle after a couple of motorized country-made canoes returned back on the shore with the prized solar shrimp.
Fish agents too made their presence felt at the fishing villages with vehicles for the purchase of the solar shrimp.
Benaulim-based fisherman Pele Fernandes said day one of the fishing season began on a moderate note with local fishermen netting the solar shrimp in moderate quantities.
“The sea is rough and choppy. After waiting for the last three days, some of the traditional fishermen ventured out in the sea on Monday. Some of them have returned back with catch ranging from 500 kilograms to one tonne of the solar shrimp”, he said.
Colva-based fisherman Meditt Fernandes echoed similar sentiments.
“The shrimp catch is moderate. My country made canoe netted around 400 kilograms of the solar shrimp. The sea is rough making it difficult for the motorized canoes to do fishing”, he said.
