Started on an experimental basis from Thursday, heavy and multi-axle vehicles proceeding from Goa towards Kolhapur have been banned from entering the city.

According to the new route, the vehicles will now be diverted at Parishwad Cross near Khanapur and will directly go to the NH4 near Hirebagewadi. Similarly, heavy vehicles from Goa via Chorla too will be sent back to Parishwad Cross to take the similar route.

“The initiative has been aimed at reducing the heavy congestion in Belagavi city and to control the rising accidents on the stretch of NH4A between Peeranwadi to Udaymag,” Police Sommissioner Soumendu Mukherjee told The Goan.
