The Traffic Police have started a four-day enforcement drive to crack down on several violations that are said to be affecting road safety. One of the main issues being targeted is the increasing practice of renting private vehicles to tourists, which the government has described as a serious problem.
The drive, from July 2 to July 5, will focus on 11 key traffic violations during two daily slots ” from 9 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 6 pm. It will take place across the State, with field staff required to wear body cameras to record all enforcement work. “Maximum cases should be booked for a deterrent effect during the special drive. Body work cameras should be used and capture video recordings. It should be reflected on DSR without fail,” the order by Superintendent of Traffic Police Prabodh Shirwaikar said.
Other violations under focus include driving without a licence, underage driving, riding without helmets, carrying extra pillion riders, using mobile phones while driving, over speeding, using modified silencers, entering no-entry zones, illegal parking and jumping traffic signals.
Police officers across stations have been told to take action on the ground, while Deputy Superintendents of Police will supervise the drive to ensure it is properly carried out.
The department has asked citizens to cooperate with the drive, saying it is not just a crackdown but a much-needed effort to ensure safer and more disciplined use of roads.
