A man and his minor son were found dead while his wife was found in a critical condition at their rented house at Indiranagar in Karaswada-Mapusa on Saturday noon.
The deceased have been identified as Ajay Jadhav (38) and his son, Atharva (7). Ajay's wife, Suvarna (30), is currently undergoing treatment at the GMC hospital in Bambolim. The Jadhav family are natives of Sonurli in Sawantwadi-Maharashtra
According to reports, the Jadhav family had been living in a rented room in Indiranagar for the past year. Ajay was employed at a private bank in Porvorim, while Suvarna was a homemaker.
On Friday night, Ajay had called his father at Sonurli to let him know that his wife and son were unable to sleep. Ajay had also called his brother to mention that he was not feeling well.
On Saturday morning, Ajay's father grew concerned when neither his son nor his daughter-in-law responded to his phone calls.
Growing suspicious, Ajay's father travelled from Sonurli to Mapusa by bus and arrived at his son's room in Indiranagar at noon, only to find the door locked from the inside.
When the father got the door opened with the landlord's assistance, they were shocked to find Ajay, Suvarna, and Atharva lying motionless in the room.
An ambulance was immediately summoned to the scene and Ajay and Atharva were found dead. Upon checking Suvarna Jadhav's pulse, the nurse found signs of life, and she was promptly shifted to Mapusa District Hospital. From there, she was referred to the GMC hospital for further treatment and she is currently undergoing care in the Intensive Care Unit.
On receiving news of the incident, Mapusa Police Inspector Navin Desai, Sub-Inspector Yashwant Mandrekar, and a police team rushed to the site, conducted the panchnama, and sent both bodies to GMC for post-mortem examinations to determine cause of their deaths.
While preliminary indications suggest a case of suicide, Mapusa police are investigating the circumstances which left two family members dead and one in critical condition.
According to sources, the meal prepared the previous night was found untouched in the room. The police are investigating the case and obtain further details when Suvarna regains consciousness and is in a position to give a statement to the police.
