In a shocking incident, a government employee allegedly killed his wife in their residence at Shiroda on Saturday evening and later surrendered at the Ponda police station.
According to reports, Chetan Gaonkar and his wife, Hema, a teacher at a school in Farmagudi, were living in their new house at Shiroda.
The couple had been involved in heated arguments over the last few days and a similar argument broke out between them on Saturday evening, when Chetan grabbed a stone and struck Hema on her head at about 6.30 pm. She is believed to have died on the spot. Their 3-year-old son was not at home at the time of the incident.
Realising the gravity of the situation, Chetan proceeded to the Ponda police station and surrendered before the police, while also narrating the sequence of events.
A police team rushed to the house in Shiroda and conducted the panchanama.
News of the incident spread fast as people expressed shock in Shiroda and Bethora, where Hema hailed. Ponda police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
