Trial against alleged drug peddler to begin 7 yrs after FIR

PANAJI

In a drug case, the Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Court has directed charges against Myron Fernandes, seven years after the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) registered an offense against him.

Co-accused Dinesh Dandekar, alias Melvin D’Costa, was discharged due to insufficient evidence.

Fernandes was caught with suspected LSD and Ganja outside an Assagao bar, confirmed by tests from the State Forensic Science Laboratory and the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).

During the charge framing hearing, Fernandes’ lawyer argued LSD wasn’t in commercial quantity, while Dandekar’s counsel claimed he possessed no drugs, having accompanied Fernandes unknowingly.

Special Judge Bosco Roberts discharged Dandekar, stating no grave suspicion of his involvement in the conspiracy.

Charges were framed only against Fernandes under the NDPS Act.
