The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which recently made a foray into Goa's electoral arena ahead of the assembly elections due in early 2022, on Monday released a chargesheet against past governments centred around mis-governance, political instability and prosperity of politicians as against misery of the people.
Three of the Kolkata-based party's Lok Sabha MPs -- Mahua Moitra, Saugata Roy and Babul Supriyo -- were present at the release of the chargesheet at Azad Maidan in the capital city by the party's local leadership led by former chief minister Luizinho Faleiro.
TMC claimed that the chargesheet was drawn after consultations with Goan sector experts, scholars, community representatives, civil society members and common citizens, and it reflects the anger and despair of Goans.
Claiming that the Goa police withdrew permission for the event at the eleventh hour and began dispersing the media personnel who had reached the venue, Faleiro claimed it indicated the fear in the ruling BJP.
"They should know that we are street-fighters and we will not relent from being the voice of Goans," Faleiro said.
Roy, Moitra and Supriyo joined the local TMC leaders in a sit-in at the TB Cunha memorial to protest the police action.
Moitra in her brief speech addressed the issue of women safety.
"We are here with every single woman who cannot walk on the streets feeling safe, we are here with every single youth who cannot get a job because of 25% unemployment and we are here with every single Goan who cannot buy a home in their own state. We are here to stay and we will fight to the finish," Moitra, known for her fiery and eloquent speeches in Parliament, said.
Public debt, environment, healthcare, education, illegal mining and threat to Goan identity were some of the issues touched upon by the TMC leaders at the release of the chargesheet.
