Truck breakdown blocks traffic at Karmalghat
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the narrow and treacherous Karmalghat in Canacona.

CANACONA

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded for about three hours on the Karmalghat in Canacona, after a truck broke down on a steep turn on Saturday afternoon.
The incident took place at about 1 am when a loaded truck proceeding from Karwar towards Margao broke down at the steep and treacherous turn while climbing the Karmalghat slope.
The truck got stranded right in the middle of the road, making it virtually impossible for other heavy vehicles to cross the stranded truck.
As a result, hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both sides of the road for about 3 hours.
The stretch of the highway was partially restored for light vehicles, as heavy vehicles were made to stop a few kilometres from the accident spot.
Sources said the stranded truck is still lying at the spot, but as other heavy vehicles were stopped from plying on the road, traffic congestion was minimal near the accident site.
