Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Friday inaugurated a new 220 KV electrical transformer at Voddant, to ensure uninterrupted power in the area.
The transformer was inaugurated in the presence of Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Councillors Deepak Naik, Girish Borker, Shami Salkar and local ward councillor Priya Raut, former MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, staff of the Electricity department and many locals.
Speaking to reporters, Salkar said the transformer was a long pending demand of the people that had finally been put in place.
"There had been several people who suffered electricity power voltage issues and now, people from this area and surrounding areas will get uninterrupted power without power fluctuations. We got this transformer inaugurated and I thank Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar for approving the project and resolving the issue as a gift of bright lights symbolic to the Diwali festival," said Salkar.
Councillor Priya Raut said a lot of people in the ward had suffered losses with electronic equipment like TV, AC and refrigerator getting damaged due to power fluctuations.
"People have been complaining for a very long time about the power fluctuations and many a times, lifts of the building would suddenly stop functioning and many people had several electronic items damaged.”
“I had assured the people even during the Municipal elections that having a new transformer would be my priority and finally the transformer has been inaugurated just before Diwali. I want to thank the MLA and electricity department for the new transformer," said Priya.
Former MMC Chairperson Nandadeep Raut requested the MLA to take up a walking track in his ward and to resolve the sewage issue by having a sewage pumping station in the area.
"The last transformer was installed 35 years ago and as houses increased, there was shortage of power and we faced voltage issues as well. The transformer project has been pending for over 5 years and the project was delayed after the contractor expired during Covid and we are thankful to the MLA to get our issue resolved on top priority," said Raut.
"We also have a few more demands of setting up a walking track in the ward in the open space near the KTC Bus stand and develop a ground in our ward. We also have issues of sewerage connection and while the connections have reached half the ward, the other part is still waiting to get sewage connection and we will try and identify land to set up a sewage pumping station so that the remaining ward gets the sewerage connection as well,” said Raut.
