CURCHOREM: The All Goa Truck Drivers Association (AGTDA) has decided to intensify its agitation, to protest against the government's failure to fulfill the promises made to the truck drivers affected by the shut down in mining operations.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by AGTDA at Sanvordem on Monday morning, which was attended by about 200 truck drivers. The meeting was convened to discuss and to decide their future strategy regarding the agitation.

It may be recalled that a few months ago, the truck drivers and truck owners agitated by staging protest rallies and hunger strikes in various parts of the State to attract the State government's attention towards their plight.

Speaking at the meeting, Shiv Sena Goa chief Ajitsingh Rane said the truck drivers would stage protest rallies, chain hunger strikes across the State.

Rane, who is the spearheading the agitation, said it was time to give a wake up call to the BJP-led State government.

“They have fooled the people by giving tall assurances, but nothing has been done to fulfil the promises. This time, we must stay united and should sit for a hunger strike, organise protest rallies and should try and compel the government to listen to our grievances and fulfil our demands,” he added.

When contacted, Sanvordem Shiv Sena leader Baburao Naik said the meeting was convened to discus and decide future plan of agitation.
